Kamla sits down to talk with Tony Fadell, who is an investor, entrepreneur and an engineer. He worked with General Magic, Apple (#ipod and #iphone) co-founded Next Labs (maker of Next Learning Thermostat) that was acquired by Google in 2014. He is currently an investor and lives in France
In this interview Fadell shares the influence of his grandfather, and how he got him his first Macintosh computer and why he wanted to study engineering.Fadell came to Silicon Valley after completing his engineering degree in Michigan.
Fadell was all fired up about joining a brand new startup called General Magic that was co-founded in 1990 by Marc Porat, Andy Hertzfeld and Bill Atkinson. Hertzfeld and Atkinson were well-known engineers, who were part of the early Macintosh at Apple Computers.
General Magic was working on creating a personal intelligent communicator for the post-PC world. While General Magic’s product did not take off, the company was a precursor for iPhone and iPad. Fadell went to work on iPod and iPhone at Apple and then co-founded Nest Labs. (Silicon Valley, Startups, Entrepreneurs, Venture Capital)
