Kathy Kelly, co-coordinator of Voices for Creative Nonviolence, author and Nobel Peace Prize Nominee, spoke at Portland Community College (Cascade) on September 27. Having traveled to Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen and Gaza, Kelly was able to relay not just information about how the US government is directly and indirectly responsible for the military conflicts in those nations, but moving stories about the people affected by the wars. As someone who has been arrested dozens of times for nonviolent direct actions, Kelly also relays stories about women she met in prison. ----- The fact that the US has been at war in Iraq more or less since 1991, the war in Afghanistan continues after 17 years, and the US (at the time of her talk and of this writing) continues to support the Saudi war on the people of Yemen means this information is important for anyone who wants to know what their tax dollars are supporting. ---- Ms. Kelly's talk was coordinated by Associated Students of Portland Community College (Cascade) and Peace and Justice Works Iraq Affinity Group. The program was recorded and edited by FFVC member Dan Handelman.
