The 2022 Church of the Brethren Annual Conference gathered for the first time in three years for the “Big Meeting” in Omaha, Nebraska. “Brethren Voices” featured John Jones, a delegate from the Pacific Northwest in its September 2022 edition. With this program, we present additional coverage of the annual event.          “We Kneel Together,” a song written by Scott Duffey, as a response to the kidnapping of the Chibok girls of Nigeria, was performed prior to each worship service. Scott Duffey stated, “The song was a prayer of solidarity with the Nigerian EYN Church.” John Jones shares his feelings that this year’s conference, “really had the very strong, sincere desire, to discern the will of the Spirit and help us make wise decisions, together.”        The conference returned to a busy business schedule after focusing on the “compelling vision” in 2021.  Delegates accepted the concerns of a query from Southern Ohio and Kentucky District.  The query  asked, “How can we stand with People of Color, to offer sanctuary from violence and dismantle systems of oppression and racial inequity in our congregations, neighborhoods, and nation?” The query was adopted along with implementation through a two-year study/action process led by the district and On Earth Peace.         Brent Carlson hosts this program, which features the sharing from David Sollenberger, Moderator of the 2022 Annual Conference. Pastor Belita Mitchell, Harrisburg First Church of the Brethren discusses the story of “Jesus and the Woman at the Well.” Tim McElwee, Moderator of the 2023 Annual Conference, shares a compelling message of the need to express our actions in “love.” Shawn Kirchner provides a wonderful musical selection to close the program. During the past 17 years we have shared the stories of Brethren from 17 different states and the countries of Ecuador; Honduras, Nigeria, Haiti; Japan; South Sudan; Dominican Republic. Check us out.
