Portland Peace Church of the Brethren, for 17 years . . . has produced the community television program, “Brethren Voices.” It has been a way for Brethren from all parts of the nation, to share their faith with others. In effect, it has become, “Jesus, In the Neighborhood” for so many communities around the country. The productions show what Brethren do and say, as a matter of their faith. Portland’s Peace Church productions allow folks to tell their stories through in-person interviews, using video and music. Since its beginnings, programs have originated from 17 different states, Puerto Rico, Washington DC and 8 countries. Over the past 17 years, 12 Annual Conference Moderators have shared their life experiences in the Church of the Brethren. When the variety of the featured stories are reviewed, it's remarkable to see that the lives of Brethren reach out to so many across this planet, encompassing many aspects of life. This edition, number 206 of “Brethren Voices,” provides memorable moments of the 2021, virtual Annual Conference of the Church of the Brethren. Moderator David Sollenberger provides a message, stating that there is a need in the church for both the conservative and progressive points of view. Pastor Richard Zapata, Santa Ana Principe De Paz Church tells the story of his first visit, fortunately, not his last, to Malibu Beach, California. “Brethren Voices” from it’s very first program, has attempted to share stories which keep us in touch with God’s Creation. With this program we share memorable stories of the Native Gwich’n, who are spiritually connected to the Porcupine Caribou herd. These animals make a long journey as the peaceful giant, Humpback Whales, featured in the Brethren Voices program of July 2021. Musical selections of Mike Stern, “As If The Flowers Knew” and Bill Jolliff, sharing Maria Good’s song, “There’s Sunshine in My Soul, Today,” are also featured.
