Women in STEM - meet Hadiyah Mujhid. She is founder and Director of Historical Black Colleges VC fund (HBCvc), a not-for-profit organization. The mission of the organization is to promote and foster entrepreneurship in historical black colleges in the US.
Mujhid grew up in Philadelphia surrounded by her extended family. She shares how her grandmother, uncles and aunts influenced her to study and how she found the courage to give up her job and become an entrepreneur. She took a leaf from her grandmother's mantra: work hard and save.
As a young student Mujhid realized she was good at science and math. Her goal was to become a doctor but she was unable to get admission to a medical college. Undeterred she decided to pursue a degree in engineering and landed her first job at Lockheed Martin, which brought her from the East Coast to Silicon Valley. She worked at Lockheed for a few years and then decided to become an entrepreneur leaving behind her safe job and a safety net.
