Transporting a studio setup to an offsite location requires both field and studio experience. This four-hour session will teach you how to efficiently plan, set up, operate and break down a multi-component unit that consists of these tools:
- A main rack with a 2-channel mixer, dual record deck and communication system
- A laptop with a Black Magic design virtual switcher and Photoshop created graphics
- A 12-channel offboard mixer
- Up to four JVC 600 cameras
- Four 75' camera cable bundles
- A 22" multiviewer monitor
You will also learn how to operate a virtual switcher in conjunction with an audio mixer and a communication system, as well as how to create simple broadcast graphics in Adobe Photoshop.
Note: It is highly recommended that your vehicle is a station wagon, SUV or minivan to be able to efficiently and safely transport all components of this unit. A site plan will need to be submitted prior to checking out the MCU as well as scheduling check-out and return times due to the length of time needed to go through all of the components of this equipment.
Prerequisites: Intro to HD Studio and JVC 600 certification.
This class is part of our Studio Production track. Learn more about our media education tracks here.
Advanced: These workshops are for students who already have an in-depth understanding of the equipment and are ready for a professional or personal production. Advanced courses are immersive and move at a rapid pace, allowing time for a deep dive into the functions of the equipment and/or software. Students with no prior experience are not advised to take Advanced level courses.
Certification: This workshop will certify you to check out our portable Multi-Camera Units (MCU), each of which contains a laptop video switcher, a 14-channel audio board, a file-based recorder, laptop graphics and can be used with up to four JVC 600 cameras. Camera instruction and certification must be obtained separately. You must have a certified camera person operating each camera you check out.
