Intro to Music and Video Programming with MAX/MSP/Jitter

Learn to manipulate your own media using the DIY software environment MAX/MSP/Jitter, a programming language designed for media makers and performers.

In this workshop, you'll see how video and sound can react to one another, experiment with premade interactive video software and learn the basics of programming your own software.

You'll explore how sound can control video effects, deconstructing graphics and making your own. During class, you'll apply these skills by creating a short music video segment.

This class is part of our Experimental Media track. Learn more about our media education tracks here.

Introductory: Aimed at novice media makers with some prior knowledge of media production, Introductory classes move at a pace for learners who are new to the field of media but already have a basic understanding of the concepts in the class description.

Certification: This workshop will certify you to reserve a MacBook Pro laptop that comes with MAX/MSP/Jitter, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro X and Adobe Creative Cloud. You will also be able to borrow our hard drives and submit videos to our channels!
